Bridgerton Blooms

In June, I had the privilege of being part of something truly special—a photoshoot inspired by the Regency era.

Set against the magnificent backdrop of Avington House in Hampshire, we celebrated the launch of Josephine Scott’s latest bridal collection. The aim was to capture the timeless elegance and opulence reminiscent of Bridgerton, and we couldn’t have chosen a more fitting venue for this grand affair. Avington House, with its historical grandeur, provided the perfect setting to bring Josephine’s breathtaking designs to life.

From the choice of florals to the overall aesthetic, every detail was curated to echo the essence of both the Regency and post-war eras. Each gown, accessory, and flower played its part in creating a visual spectacle that evoked the charm and splendour that Bridgerton fans have come to adore.

The Appeal of Avington House

When you step into Avington House, you’re immediately struck by its rich history. Dating back to the 10th century, the house has been a witness to centuries of change. The Versailles ballroom, in particular, is nothing short of spectacular. It was here that our styled shoot took place. With its painted ceilings and intricate accents, the ballroom feels like a regal setting pulled straight from a Bridgerton episode. This room was once graced by royalty, including King Charles II, and it provided a fitting backdrop to the elegant gowns on display.

Walking through the ballroom, it’s hard not to be swept up in the grandeur. The room’s historical significance added weight to every shot, making it feel like a journey through time.

The Essence of Josephine Scott’s Bridal Collection

Josephine Scott’s designs encapsulate a blend of sophistication, femininity, and grace. Her latest collection draws inspiration from the 1950s, a time when women embraced both playfulness and luxury. Josephine’s attention to detail is impeccable, and each gown showcased in the shoot was a masterpiece in its own right. Whether it was the delicate embellishments or the dramatic silhouettes, her designs carried a sense of nostalgia while feeling completely modern.

Her use of blush pinks, lavender, and pale blues brought the collection to life. These pastel colours, popularised in the post-war era, echo the Bridgerton aesthetic. They fit perfectly within the soft, romantic setting we aimed to recreate, blending Regency-era elegance with 1950s charm.

The influence of Dior’s New Look could be felt in the flared skirts and nipped-in waists. Josephine’s gowns paid homage to this iconic style while introducing her own fresh take on bridal fashion. The addition of Cornelia James gloves added a touch of regal sophistication to the looks, elevating them even further.

A Photographic Journey with Charlotte Wise

Behind the lens, Charlotte Wise was able to capture the essence of the entire shoot. Her sharp attention to detail brought the intricacies of each gown into focus, while her creative direction ensured that the Regency-inspired theme was felt in every frame. Charlotte’s work brought Josephine’s designs to life, and she succeeded in capturing not just the beauty of the dresses, but also the atmosphere of the day.

Working with three female models and one male model, Charlotte created a visual narrative that was as captivating as it was elegant. The dynamic between the models added depth to the shoot, creating a subtle but powerful story that unfolded in each photograph. The chemistry between them allowed for moments of tenderness, romance, and intrigue, making the viewer feel as though they had been transported into a scene from Bridgerton itself.

Bridgerton-Inspired Florals

No Bridgerton-inspired shoot would be complete without an abundance of flowers. For this project, we collaborated with Fall into Flowers, a talented floral design team that perfectly captured the Bridgerton aesthetic. Their arrangements were nothing short of lavish. Using seasonal British blooms, they created opulent installations that brought a sense of regality to the space.

Peonies, delphiniums, and ranunculus played leading roles in the floral design, their pastel hues and soft textures adding an extra layer of romance to the shoot. These flowers, which often feature in Bridgerton’s lavish garden scenes, helped us capture that same sense of abundance and beauty. The way the flowers complemented the gowns and the grand setting of Avington House was simply magical.

The Hertfordshire Connection

Bridgerton’s connection to Hertfordshire only added to the magic of this project. With key scenes from the series filmed at Ashridge House in Hertfordshire, the influence of the county on our shoot was undeniable. While our setting was Hampshire’s Avington House, the influence of Ashridge and other Hertfordshire venues—such as Hatfield House and North Mymms Park—could be felt throughout the day.

The sweeping lawns and stately architecture of these Hertfordshire venues have become iconic backdrops for the series, helping to create the world that viewers have come to love. Much like Ashridge House, Avington House boasts an architectural beauty that lends itself perfectly to a Regency-inspired aesthetic. The connection between the two locations made it feel as though we were creating our own piece of the Bridgerton world, right here in Hampshire.

Regency Romance Meets Modern Bridal

As we worked to bring Josephine Scott’s collection to life, it became clear that the influence of Bridgerton goes far beyond period drama. Its impact can be seen everywhere—from fashion to home décor to weddings.

Brides-to-be are increasingly looking for ways to incorporate Regency elegance into their big day, whether through floral arrangements, pastel colour palettes, or even gown silhouettes.

Josephine’s collection offers a modern take on this Regency style, blending it with the femininity of the 1950s to create something entirely unique.

Her gowns feel like a perfect choice for brides who want a touch of romance, glamour, and timeless elegance.

The Bridgerton aesthetic is one of abundance—of flowers, fabrics, and details. It’s about creating a world where beauty and luxury go hand in hand. Josephine Scott’s bridal collection captures that feeling in every gown, offering brides a chance to step into their own romantic world on their special day.

Final Thoughts

Our shoot at Avington House was a celebration of bridal fashion, creativity, and the magic of storytelling. Josephine Scott’s collection, combined with Charlotte Wise’s photography and the stunning florals from Fall into Flowers, created a vision of bridal beauty that bridged the gap between Regency romance and modern elegance.

The connection to Hertfordshire’s own Bridgerton venues, such as Ashridge House, added an extra layer of authenticity to the shoot, making it feel like we had stepped into the world of Bridgerton itself. However, as a wedding florist in Hertfordshire, we also have the scope to reach customers in Oxfordshire, London, Wiltshire, Buckinghamshire and the Cotswolds.

This project was more than just a photoshoot as it was an opportunity to explore how historical influences can inspire modern bridal fashion. With its romantic gowns, lavish florals, and stunning setting, the Bridgerton Blooms shoot truly encapsulated the timeless elegance that brides seek today.
